Houthi forces launched a missile and drone attack on the Al-Maashiq Presidential Palace in Aden, Yemen, targeting what the group claimed was a Saudi military operations headquarters. According to reports from Yemeni health officials, five people were killed and 16 others were injured. These casualty figures remain subject to change as additional information becomes available. Yemen’s prime minister and cabinet members were reported safe following the attack.
The attack not only targeted a major government complex in Yemen but also raised concerns about Saudi Arabia’s military operations in the region. Saudi Arabia has worked alongside Yemen’s internationally recognized government in military operations aimed at protecting its security interests, particularly because the two countries share a border. Since the beginning of Yemen’s civil war, Houthi forces have gained control of significant territory, raising security concerns for Saudi Arabia.
Aden has served as the temporary seat of Yemen’s internationally recognized government since Houthi forces seized Sanaa, the country’s capital, in 2014. The takeover marked a major turning point in Yemen’s political crisis, which later developed into a prolonged civil war. Saudi Arabia subsequently led a military coalition in support of Yemen’s government in 2015.
The attack on Al-Maashiq Palace follows a series of Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabian airports and infrastructure since September 2026, including further incidents in October. The Houthi rebel group has also threatened to continue targeting Saudi Arabia’s airports and oil facilities, contributing to ongoing tensions between the two sides.
The missile and drone attack on Al-Maashiq Palace highlights the continuing security challenges facing Yemen and Saudi Arabia amid the ongoing conflict with Houthi forces. The attack raises concerns about the security of important government and military facilities and the potential for further escalation in the region.
